Equality in Energy Transitions at BETD25: Advancing a Gender-Transformative Energy Future

The Equality in Energy Transitions Initiative proudly participated in the closed-door roundtable “Applied Gender Mainstreaming: Towards Truly Gender-Transformative Energy Policies” held during the 2025 Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD). We extend our sincere thanks to the Government of Germany for hosting this important exchange and for the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful and timely conversation.

Representing the Initiative, we shared our vision for embedding gender equity at the heart of the global energy transition. Our participation reaffirmed our commitment to advancing systemic change through practical, intersectional approaches that reimagine energy policy as a driver of social transformation—not just technological change. We emphasized that true gender-transformative action must go beyond representation and address the structural barriers that perpetuate inequality in policy, finance, and workforce participation.

During the roundtable, we highlighted examples from our member governments and partners—such as Canada’s Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) framework and Chile’s Ministry of Energy gender office—which illustrate how embedded, institutional approaches can lead to lasting change. We also spoke to the critical importance of robust gender-disaggregated data, integrated governance structures, and accountability mechanisms that ensure policies are designed with inclusion from the outset.

The Equality Initiative remains deeply committed to this work, and we welcome continued engagement with partners who share our vision of a just, inclusive energy transition. We look forward to co-creating the structures, strategies, and solutions that will help close the gender gap in the energy sector by 2030 with like-minded collaborators.
