WHY TO SUPPORT WORK ON GENDER DISAGGREGATED DATA IN THE ENERGY
SECTOR – Chaired by Irina Lazzerini, Senior Sustainable Energy Expert, Energy Community
Secretariat (10.20 – 11.45)
Ensuring gender equality in the energy sector is key to social, political, environmental and economic development. Gender considerations need to be taken into account to advance a just and inclusive energy transition. Yet, women’s participation remains far from balanced and not enough gender–disaggregated data are currently available to i) assess the effects of energy policy measures on women and men; ii) inform gender analysis, and iii) evaluate and track the specific contributions of women as a Major Group in society.
Leveraging on the European Commission’s study 2021, the Energy Community Secretariat published a policy paper to raise awareness on the lack of relevant sex–disaggregated data in the energy labour market of its Contracting Parties, which is critical for assessing the actual extent and causes of gender inequalities.
Against this backdrop, this webinar will explore:
- What are gender disaggregate data and why are they essential to identify and monitor women’s access to
energy jobs and progress towards gender equality; - What datasets and indicators are important to reveal gender gaps and barriers to women entering the
energy labour market; - What relevant, ongoing work is being done on this topic by the many organizations present and what
recommendations could be transferred to the Energy Community
Speakers:
- Ashley Acker, Gender in Energy Data Analyst, International Energy Agency (IEA)
- Andrea Lenauer, Senior Advisor International Relations, E–control
