The Equality in Energy Transitions Initiative aims to accelerate gender equality and diversity in clean energy transitions and close the gender gap by 2030. The Ambassadors program looks to recognize women in leadership roles and showcase role models in the clean energy sector. She was nominated for the Advisory Board in the Global Initiative Agent of Change The 7th Climate Week. This board seeks to strengthen collaboration and commitment towards sustainable development. With the slogan “Connecting the energy transition of our region,” the consolidated meeting connects this time the key actors of the energy transition and becomes, also, the prelude to the COP16 of Biodiversity. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore innovative solutions and share knowledge that drive a greener and more resilient future.
Victor Rodriguez Núñez, Equality Initiative Ambassador
Victor participated in an unprecedented campaign “Energy+Inclusion” to commemorate the Pride Month of LGBTIQA+ at the Ministry of Energy.
The aim of this campaign was to address and make visible the importance of guaranteeing inclusive and discrimination free workspaces in the institution.
The campaign also featured training for officials in Anti-discrimination Law, a meeting with Diego Pardow, and a graphic awareness campaign with an educational video on the meaning and importance of the acronym LGBTIQA+
Romina Reyes, Sustainability Director and Manager, Universidad Andrés Bello
This month, Romina gave a talk on Sustainability with a Gender Perspective, Innovation and Social Transformation at Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana, employability.
She also participated as a mentor in entrepreneurship for the Women Without Limits program through the Belcrop Foundation. See More
Paulina Musalem, Head of Sustainability Planning & Stakeholder Engagement at Enel Chile
Recently, Paulina has won the scholarship from Fundación Luksic for a course on Circular Economy from MIT Professional Education.
One of Paula’s main motivations to apply was to put the knowledge of women at the service of creating new business models, that allow optimizing resources and reducing energy consumption.
New York Climate Week Event: Women on the Frontlines of the Climate Crisis: Ending the Era of Fossil Fuels and Implementing Solutions
During this in-person forum, women leaders in all their diversity will come together to share comprehensive and intersectional approaches and strategies to stop fossil fuel extraction. Accelerate community-led climate solution and lead to a Just Transition grounded in a climate
justice framework. Critical topics include fossil fuel resistance; food sovereignty; forest protection’ gender-responsive climate policies; Indigenous and human rights; Right of Nature; strategic preparations for COP29 and COP30; uplifting care economies; community-led solutions; and transformative policies for our collective future. Women are leading the way.
Olympic Partnership with Sports for Nature
The Paris Olympic Games promised to be the greenest in history, running entirely on renewable energy, utilizing the locally grown food, and minimizing single-use plastics. This is the first Olympic games that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has participated in the Sports for Nature Initiative. The Sports for Nature Initiative works to transform the impact of sports on nature through enables athletes to advocate for nature protection and restoration. The end of the Olympics saw 17 new sports organizations joined this framework, increasing signatories to 76. Read Here
Olympic Medalist Rayssa Leal advocates for nature
Brazilian skateboarder, Rayssa Leal, used the Paris 2024 Games to advocate for environmental preservation and climate change mitigation. Leal’s passion for environmental protection is influenced by having grown up near the Amazon Rainforest and is reflected in skateboard featuring her favorite Amazonian animal, the Macaw. Her advocacy is in partnership with International Olympic Committee’s Sports for Nature framework, which works with sports organizations in protecting the environment. Read Here
Celebrating Gender Parity at Paris 2024 Olympics
The Paris 2024 Olympics is the first “gender equal” games in the event’s history. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) distributed quota places equally amongst female and male athletes. This equality was reached through collaboration between the IOC, International Sports Federations and National Olympic Committees. In furthering gender equality at the Olympics, the IOC has focused on increasing equal opportunities between male and female athletes, as well as ensuring they have equal coverage of both female and male sports. At World Women’s Forum, UN deputy chief urges action on gender equality
Held on 22-23 August under the theme Towards a Green Future, the Forum focused on advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those emphasizing gender equality. Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed emphasized the urgency of accelerating progress on the SDGs, as the deadline is less than six years away. She highlighted that women’s leadership is essential for better community services and effective climate action but acknowledged that “time is not on our side.” Read Here

Industry in transition: Diversity as a driver of innovation and technology (Only in German Language/On site)
The event is part of the Austrian accompanying activities of the Equality Initiative (Equality in Energy Transitions) by the Federal Ministry for Climate Action together with the Austrian Energy Agency and the Climate and Energy Fund.
The transformation of industry is an important key to achieving climate and energy targets, and research and innovation are the engine to accelerate this development. At the same time, it is becoming increasingly clear that the potential of gender and diversity must be exploited even better in order to find sustainable and future-proof solutions. Register Here
This October, the Equality Initiative is hosting a joint side event with the Climate Investment Fund, “Shaping Tomorrow: Women’s Leadership and Social Inclusion for a Just Transition.”. This event will be held October 2nd, from 10:15 to 11:14 AM (Brasilia Time) at the official 15th Clean Energy Ministerial and 9th Mission Innovation Ministerial (CEM15/MI-9) in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil. This event will focus on the role of women’s leadership in advancing just and clean energy transitions particularly regarding the role of innovation, including three case studies on clean cooking, investment, and gender mainstreaming/ policy.
